What is TEDxYouth@GreaterNashville?
In the spirit of “ideas worth spreading,” TED has created TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxYouth@GreaterNashville, where x = independently organized TED event. At TEDxYouth@GreaterNashville, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

On November 20, 2010 — Universal Children’s Day — TEDx organizers across the globe hosted events for (and by) young people. These events varied widely in size, format and theme, but they shared a common vision: inspiring curiosity, igniting new ideas, empowering young leaders. TEDxYouthDay was a series of TEDx events happening over a 24-hour period all around the world.

Responding to this challenge, an “Engagement Network” led by Tennessee State University and Montgomery Bell Academy created the TSU-licensed TEDxNashville family of events’ TEDxYouth@GreaterNashville to engage current and future leaders amongst Greater Nashville area high school and college students in meaningful conversation surrounding innovative “Ideas Worth Spreading” in the TED core principles of Technology, Entertainment and Design.

What was the format of the day?
TEDxYouth@GreaterNashville is a consortia of all participating schools, programs, colleges and universities at Montgomery Bell Academy for a series of nationally, regionally and locally recognized presenters.

The  11.20 session at MBA began at 2 p.m. and concluded at 5 p.m. There was a social event hosted at Montgomery Bell Academy for all participants from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A special staging period took place from 12-2.

Who was behind this?
TEDxYouth@GreaterNashville is a collaborative effort:

Tennessee State University (Tennessee Board of Regents)
Montgomery Bell Academy
Nashville Technology Council and T3 Initiative
Oasis Center
Cool People Care
Digital Media Sandbox Consortium Governors Challenge
Entrepreneurship Center
YouthSpeaksNashville
TEDxNashville Family of Events
Belmont University
Tennessee Campus Compact
Junior Achievement of Middle Tennessee
Mayor’s Office of Service
Mayor’s Youth Council
Metro Nashville Public Schools
Metro Nashville Private Schools

All of these organizations are passionate about engaging Nashville’s high school and college students in a creative and positive forum, as well as creating fellowship between students from a variety of social, ethnic and economic backgrounds. TEDxYouth@GreaterNashville ignites, inspires and empowers the youth of Greater Nashville through an engagement network that spotlights the community’s own ‘Ideas Worth Spreading.”

How do youth, schools, and youth organizations get involved?
The TEDxYouth@GreaterNashville committee asked schools and youth organizations to nominate their most innovative youth leaders or youth programs. If selected, each school or organization convened at Montgomery Bell Academy for the area-wide afternoon event.

ABOUT TEDxNASHVILLE 2012

On Saturday, March 31, 2012, TEDxNashville will host its third annual event titled "Impact — Making a Difference" at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center. Distinguished leaders in technology, entertainment, design, science, art, education, government, public policy, healthcare and other areas will share their remarkable thoughts and ideas focused on creating positive changes in our society.

The leadership team of TEDxNashville comprises successful entrepreneurs, artists, technologists, communication professionals, philanthropists and PhDs. Building on the highly successful 2010 event titled "Art + Science: The Future of Health" and the 2011 event "A Sense of Wonder,” this team is establishing a program that will inspire our community to engage in innovation for social change and serve as the foundation for a strong, ongoing TEDx presence in Middle Tennessee.

This event is for curiously-minded, educated Middle Tennesseans who are influencers in their fields. Members of the press and a select group of high school student ambassadors also will be invited.
